Outreach

Outreach presentation at the WeekINN 2023, on “Materiales de almacenamiento de energía: investigación de vanguardia para abordar la demanda energética de la vida diaria” (Energy storage materials: cutting-edge research to address the energy demands of everyday life). The boosting global energy demand and the climatic problems related to fossil fuels consumption claim both for new energy storage tools, which are aimed to improve energy harvesting from renewable resources and to lighten the environmental impact. Aiming to solve these urgent issues, which deal and affect everyone’s life, cutting-edge research is devoted to the investigation of several types of new energy storage materials.

Pelayo participated in the Euskampus Bordeaux Eguna, organized by the Euskampus Foundation in the Bilbao School of Engineering. There, he gave a talk in the outreach session “My Journey on the Euskampus Bordeaux Campus,” where he presented the goals and progress of his research in the following talk: “Alternative Materials for More Sustainable Solar Energy.”

Irene participated in a lab session for kids, in the framework of the Science Week 2023. The activity, “Scale up your world”, was focused on microscopes and microscopic features of matter.

Pelayo gave a seminar to students from the University of Valladolid on how to use neutron scattering techniques to study the physicochemical properties of materials. He also presented some of the opportunities available at large-scale research facilities for short stays, where students can expand their knowledge and take the leap into a research career.
